Hey!
I'm here and just about settled in. The journey was exhausting! I left Cardiff at around 3am, flew from Heathrow at 9.45 and got to the hostel in NY around 3pm NY time, so 8pm UK time. The flight itself was fine; they fed us so much food! We had complimentary cocktails, pretzels, chili salad and a passion fruit mousse, a fab lolly, afternoon tea and so much juice and coffee! I watched enough said and about time as I couldn't sleep, despite being super comfy with extra leg room! The girl in the seat next to me , Katie, was lovely and I had actually emailed her already! Getting to the hostel was pretty stressful and the shuttle driver was one crazy man but once I got there I felt better!
Susie was a girl in my dorm and we decided to go explore. Eventually we found central park and it was as beautiful as it is in films. I'd love to go there in autumn. We also grabbed food at big daddy's, proper American style and the portions were huge! We then headed back for some much needed sleep.
The next day was a long coach journey and tackling the subway with a suitcase! A girl called petra was travelling with me to camp so it was nice not to be alone. After a day travelling we didnt get picked up! But it was all cool in the end. We had a bite to eat at camp and met the rest of the staff. Everyone seems lovely but also keep themselves to themselves. The Americans have mostly been here before and there are a lot of Hungarians who speak lots in their own language, so I have been feeling s bit isolated. I'm hoping it will pass soon as people get to know eachother better.
The past few days have been spent learning thee ropes in the kitchen. I've been mainly on potwash and dining room, and it seems simple enough. We start at 7 and work till around 9.30-10. We go back at 12.30-2 and again at 5.30 till 8. The time in between is free time and I will be spending it mostly on the beach, when the weather is a bit less cloudy!
The vibe here is really laid back. I think the pace will pick up when we have a full camp, but for now it is nice to take some time out and chill. Here's to a good summer!
